"Buddy Holley" and "KDAV Radio"
Soon after Dave Pinkston started up radio station KDAV at 6602 Martin Luther King Boulevard, Americas the first all country music format radio station in the country, the station had a program call "Sunday Party". . Frequent guest on the program were Buddy Holly and friend Jack Neal.
They were so popular that they were eventually given their own half-hour program each Sunday. This was the real beginning of Buddy Holley's short career.
KDAV - New Lease on Life
Renaissance Broadcasting Inc., owned by Bill Clement, purchased KLLL's AM station (1590-AM) from Pinnacle Broadcasting Inc. and changed the format to 1950s rock 'n' roll, pop, and rhythm 'n' blues.
KDAV-AM 1590 went on the air at 11:15 a.m. Tuesday, August 18, 1998. The new KDAV studio is located at 1714 Buddy Holly Avenue in Legendary Lubbock, Texas.
KDAV broadcast a live, local format 24 hours a day. KDAV features your favorite rock 'n' roll music and country tunes from the late fifties through the early sixties, with an emphasis on the sounds of Lubbock radio.
Rockin Rod Texas Bob's favorite Disk Jockey
"Rockin Rod" spins the disk from noon to 4:00 Monday through Friday. KDAV only has a 1000 watt transmitter that barely reaches out of Lubbock County, but don't fret. KDAV and "Rockin Rod" are heard around the world via the Internet. So wherever you are you can hear him spinning the disk and sending the hits out to you from Legendary Lubbock, Texas.
Why is "Rockin Rod" my favorite DJ? Because we let me talk Texas on his show and I love to talk Texas.
