The Ashvale Fish Restaurant
Aberdeen, Scotland

The Ashvale Fish Restaurant is not exactly located in Texas, but if
you think about it a lot of Texas oilmen have passed through Aberdeen,
Scotland on their way to the North Sea in search of
and producing Texas Tea, "oil that is".
As you drive around the city you can see all the usual suspects; Chevron Texaco, Shell, Conoco Phillips, Halliburton and others. Take away the water of the North Sea, the green grass, the Castles, the granite buildings, cars driving on the wrong side of the road, the Gaelic sounding names, the British pounds, the lack of or need of air conditioning, ... OK if you take away a lot of stuff, you could be in a Texas oil town like maybe McCamey or Odessa, or Kilgore. That's not the point. The point is good food.
The Ashvale Challenge
The Big Texan Restaurant in Amarillo, Texas has it's 72 oz. steak challenge and the Ashvale Fish Restaurant has "The Ashvale Challenge". The Challenge is to eat a 16 ounce breaded and fried halibut and the chips that go with it. If you are successful you don't get a free meal, but you do get a "Certificate of Achievement" for eating the "The Ashvale Whale" and I ate the whale. On a scale of 1 to 10 I give this challenge a 2. I could have met this challenge when I was 10 years old. However it is a good excuse to eat a lot of very good food.
In the interest good international relationships, don't ask for ice tea.
